Design and Build Contract for the HDD installation of a 550m long 355mm SDR11 PE100 pumping main under the Heathcote River and major Dyers / Ferry / Tunnel Road roundabout. This project was the final section of the Lyttelton Wastewater Scheme. Once completed, all of Lyttelton’s and Diamond Harbour’s wastewater will be redirected to the main Christchurch wastewater treatment plant in Bromley.
Hadlee & Brunton engineered an alignment approximately 12m deep in liquified sands, silts and tidal salt ground water. The alignment involved twin vertical curves and a constant horizontal compound curve at bend radii of 300m to 400m. The shot started in Tunnel Road and exited in Ferry Road approx. 70 degrees from the rig side position.
All mixed metal oxide fluids were recycled via a 600m mud return line.
Major traffic management and high density residential settings which had to be factored into the design and construction including a 1.2km pipe pull to position the pipe string for the installation phase. Pull back was completed as nightworks and was completed 4 hours ahead of schedule.
